[Grml] Installing GRML-Medium in VirtualBox on Windows 7rc

Hi grml fraternity,
I have used linux for almost 10 years, only used as a production system
(distro-enthu), so not much of kernel stuff. A med-skilled developer with
4-5 yrs of exp in network programming.

I have installed win7, with virtualbox in it. i need a linux, which is
smallest in size, lightest in running, provided it provides best development
tools for network programming and monitoring. I used grml couple of year ago
at Politecnico Di Torino, for network security class (recommended by a
prof), didnt use it after that, but i guess it serves a very good purpose of
network development and network monitoring.

Installing in Virtual Box.
i am not able to install the grml-medium to my harddisk in virtualbox. when
i enter grml2hd, after couple of disclaimers it says, no parition found. Has
anyone installed grml to hdd in virtualbox.

how do i go about it. any help and pointers.

regards
Vivek Sharma

And when running "grml2hd /dev/sda1" it still says "Error: no

What does 'fdisk -l' say?

what do i do, :).
1 -- i am using a virtualBox, does it mean i have to first using some third
party partitioning util like gparted to make a partition. and then try to
install grml-medium
2 -- i am using dynamic HDD in virtual box, do i have to use static, and
also how much space would i require to run grml-medium. will 2GB be enough.
lets say all i need in /home is 300-400 MiB.

Yes, 2GB will be enough (depending on what you exactly plan to do of
course). Though you could use a dynamic HDD with more space and "use
just as you need it" then.

this is out of the proc/partitions/

What does 'fdisk -l' say?
Disk /dev/sda: 4294 MB, 4294967296 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 522 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk Identifier: 0x00000000
Did you mean sda instead of sda1 in the /proc/partitions output,
right?
Post by Vivek Sharma
Disk /dev/sda does't contain a valid partition table
Well, that's the reason. :)

while i grml boot it displays something like
mounted live system on /dev/sr0
And when running "grml2hd /dev/sda1" it still says "Error: no
harddisk partition(s) found for installation."?
What does 'fdisk -l' say?
